The Almost perfect day

Today (12/22) was the almost perfect day. At church, we heard short testimonies of the Savior followed by a carol. Jake asked me yesterday if I could share a brief testimony and choose a hymn. I chose “hark the herald angels sing” and shared the following words before we sang it:

“During the Christmas season people everywhere sing carols- carols that tell the story of the babe in a manger. Yet, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”, shares the profound message of more than just a babe in Bethlehem, but his purpose in coming. The why. The how. What He provided and conquered.

Who is this babe born to humble, unprepared parents in a stable? That woke shepherds in the middle of the night to follow a star and brought angels to visit a baby lying in the hay without invitation. What a scene it must have been.l! A scene that has become picture worthy and song worthy …. but not because it went as planned or smoothly (the wise men showed up a year late). But because of Love, Purpose, Family, and of course, Jesus. That’s why we celebrate.

“Hark the herald angels sing” cannot exclaim it enough: “newborn King,” “everlasting Lord,” “Prince of Peace,” “Son of Righteousness.” This is a royal birth. The coming of our Savior, but nothing like it screams fit for a king or royalty as we know it. There were no red carpets, no servants, no feasts, etc but He is our king, my king.

A king that taught characteristics of compassion, grace, generosity, love of all- even enemies, and forgiveness. He healed the sick, cast out devils, met people where they were in their darkest hours. He loved the poor, touched lepers, revered women, welcomed children, and extended his compassion to His enemies…all against the trends of His time. He saved then and He saves now.

Hark (Listen) the herald angels sing “God and sinners reconciled!”. He was born to give second chances. He shows us how to forgive and extend grace. He was born to raise the sons of man and to help us become- a message we must share with others in our day. It is my hope that as we sing the words of this hymn, we reflect more fully of the redeeming mission of Christ and help proclaim God and sinners reconciled.

After church I asked Beck to snap a couple pictures of our family in hopes of getting a good one….which was unsuccessful. I was scrolling through them on the way home discouraged about it when I was informed we were having real family photos taken in 45 minutes. Ginny had arranged it for my Christmas gift….it was a complete surprise and the best ever.

After photos we drove to Jackson to celebrate Christmas a touch early since Charity was in town. It was a great day there. On the way home, I had expressed one of my best days… all Christmas carols at church, family photos, and an enjoyable day with my parents and sisters.

Now, I sit in the waiting room as Will is being mentally evaluated. He got upset tonight when I told him his friend couldn’t come over tomorrow.  He left home (temperature in the 30’s) and he e couldn’t find him for over an hour. I was scared and so worried. He finally went to a restaurant about 2 miles from the house and called Ginny. Oh did I mention before he left, he tried to hit me and threw a log at his dad’s car busting the back light?  I’m not happy to be here and have very mixed feelings but we truly are trying to do right by our boy.
