Will’s Mother's Day testimony

Little did I know one of Jake’s counselors asked Will to share a few words today. It was touching for me to hear, even though I think the talks should focus on womanhood that say rather than mothers.  He did a great job and I felt a little rebuked by not being better. I’m glad he’s my son and I love him

Hello, brothers and sisters. I am deeply grateful to be here today, on Mother’s Day, to share a few words about my mother and the profound impact she has had on my life and my faith. When I was asked to speak, I initially felt a sense of apprehension. However, upon reflecting on my mother’s unwavering love and dedication, I realized that I could share her remarkable qualities with you.

My mother is one of the most protective individuals I know. Her protective nature is a testament to her unwavering love and commitment to her family. From a young age, she ensured our safety, love, and well-being. While I may not have fully comprehended her protective instincts during my childhood, I have come to understand that protection is an expression of love. It is a reflection of the Savior’s love for us, as He watches over us, guards us, and provides us with the strength to face life’s challenges. My mother has consistently demonstrated this profound love without even realizing it.

She possesses a unique gift, a divine gift, of sensing our emotions without the need for verbal communication. She intuitively understands when we are experiencing distress, when we require comfort, encouragement, or simply a moment of solitude. This remarkable discernment and sensitivity to the needs of others are believed to stem from her intimate relationship with the Lord. The Holy Ghost communicates with mothers in a special way, and I have witnessed this in my own life.

Furthermore, my mother has enriched my life with cherished memories that will forever remain with me. She has consistently provided solace during difficult times, offering a kind word, a small yet thoughtful gesture, or simply her presence. These seemingly insignificant moments have repeatedly affirmed my love and worth. When I contemplate the depth of Heavenly Father’s love for each of us, I am reminded of my mother’s unwavering love. She has exemplified the steadfast, patient, and joyful love that defines her character.

One of my favorite memories — and I have to share this because it just makes me smile every time I think about it — is when my mom and my dad surprised me and took me to a football game. I had no idea it was coming. I remember just the excitement of that day, but more than anything, I remember her being there. I remember laughing together and just being present with the people I love most. That memory isn't really about football. It's about a mom who wanted to give her kid something special. It's about a woman who pours herself into her children because she loves us deeply.

I want to say something that I think is really important, especially for any of the young people in here today. Our moms are not perfect. And that's okay. In fact, I think there's something really beautiful about that. My mom makes mistakes sometimes — all moms do — but here's the thing I've had to remind myself: this is their first time being a mom. They have never done this before. They are learning and growing just like we are. And the fact that they show up every single day, that they keep trying, that they keep loving us even through the hard days — that is a testimony in itself. That is grace in action.

I think about the women in scripture — Mary, the mother of our Savior. Eve, the mother of all living. The stripling warriors and their mothers who taught them to have faith. There is something deeply sacred and powerful about the role of a mother. The world may not always recognize it, but I believe God does. And I believe He placed these women in our lives on purpose.

My mom has led me closer to Christ not by preaching at me, but by living her faith in front of me. In her kindness. In her sacrifice. In her love for our family. In the way she keeps going even when things are hard. She has shown me what it looks like to follow the Savior in the everyday, ordinary, beautiful moments of life.

So Mom, thank you. Thank you for protecting us, for knowing us, for cheering us up, for giving us memories we'll hold onto forever, and for doing your very best every single day. I love you more than I can say. And I am so grateful God gave me you.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
