Hi everyone. I’ve been asked to give a talk today, and when I first read the material, I was a bit overwhelmed. But as I read more, I realized it all ties back to a central idea: how can we become more like Jesus Christ? That’s what I’d like to discuss today.

3/4 are high school graduates
The older my kids the get, the more I realize time really does pass all too quickly. Will graduated high school on Friday evening. I can say his 4 years of a high school were a roller coaster, probably for he and I both. We tried our very best to make the best choice for him when we pulled him the last two years to home-school. Often I questioned it or felt like I was letting him down, but I did really try. He was so happy Friday night and we tried to celebrate him! We went to dinner before graduation and then for ice cream after. He was all smiles, now to see what great things are in store for his life as he continues to grow and mature.

Will’s Mother's Day testimony
Little did I know one of Jake’s counselors asked Will to share a few words today. It was touching for me to hear, even though I think the talks should focus on womanhood that say rather than mothers. He did a great job and I felt a little rebuked by not being better. I’m glad he’s my son and I love him.

Hello, brothers and sisters. I am deeply grateful to be here today, on Mother’s Day, to share a few words about my mother and the profound impact she has had on my life and my faith. When I was asked to speak, I initially felt a sense of apprehension. However, upon reflecting on my mother’s unwavering love and dedication, I realized that I could share her remarkable qualities with you.
My mother is one of the most protective individuals I know. Her protective nature is a testament to her unwavering love and commitment to her family. From a young age, she ensured our safety, love, and well-being. While I may not have fully comprehended her protective instincts during my childhood, I have come to understand that protection is an expression of love. It is a reflection of the Savior’s love for us, as He watches over us, guards us, and provides us with the strength to face life’s challenges. My mother has consistently demonstrated this profound love without even realizing it.
She possesses a unique gift, a divine gift, of sensing our emotions without the need for verbal communication. She intuitively understands when we are experiencing distress, when we require comfort, encouragement, or simply a moment of solitude. This remarkable discernment and sensitivity to the needs of others are believed to stem from her intimate relationship with the Lord. The Holy Ghost communicates with mothers in a special way, and I have witnessed this in my own life.
Furthermore, my mother has enriched my life with cherished memories that will forever remain with me. She has consistently provided solace during difficult times, offering a kind word, a small yet thoughtful gesture, or simply her presence. These seemingly insignificant moments have repeatedly affirmed my love and worth. When I contemplate the depth of Heavenly Father’s love for each of us, I am reminded of my mother’s unwavering love. She has exemplified the steadfast, patient, and joyful love that defines her character.
One of my favorite memories — and I have to share this because it just makes me smile every time I think about it — is when my mom and my dad surprised me and took me to a football game. I had no idea it was coming. I remember just the excitement of that day, but more than anything, I remember her being there. I remember laughing together and just being present with the people I love most. That memory isn't really about football. It's about a mom who wanted to give her kid something special. It's about a woman who pours herself into her children because she loves us deeply.
I want to say something that I think is really important, especially for any of the young people in here today. Our moms are not perfect. And that's okay. In fact, I think there's something really beautiful about that. My mom makes mistakes sometimes — all moms do — but here's the thing I've had to remind myself: this is their first time being a mom. They have never done this before. They are learning and growing just like we are. And the fact that they show up every single day, that they keep trying, that they keep loving us even through the hard days — that is a testimony in itself. That is grace in action.
I think about the women in scripture — Mary, the mother of our Savior. Eve, the mother of all living. The stripling warriors and their mothers who taught them to have faith. There is something deeply sacred and powerful about the role of a mother. The world may not always recognize it, but I believe God does. And I believe He placed these women in our lives on purpose.
My mom has led me closer to Christ not by preaching at me, but by living her faith in front of me. In her kindness. In her sacrifice. In her love for our family. In the way she keeps going even when things are hard. She has shown me what it looks like to follow the Savior in the everyday, ordinary, beautiful moments of life.
So Mom, thank you. Thank you for protecting us, for knowing us, for cheering us up, for giving us memories we'll hold onto forever, and for doing your very best every single day. I love you more than I can say. And I am so grateful God gave me you.
In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Wreck # 2 in a little over a month
Will had an accident yesterday in the Armada, which was his fault. Fortunately he is okay. We consider that a blessing that he as protected. It does stress me out a touch trying to figure out him to work and Christopher from school but I am confident it will all be well. The Armada is not totaled, or at least we do not think so. We plan to pay for the repairs and still drive it because it is the only vehicle that fits all 6 of us still.
On a happier note, Will is officially done with high school as I submitted his final grades today. We also had to have a hard conversation with him yesterday and his reaction was the best to date...could it be a combination of several things: sleeping in the shed, an accident, taking his medication, or a little guilt about what we needed to talk to him about? But we choose to believe it is the hand of God working in his life and in ours. We are trying to always remember that he is God's son too and He loves and works with him too.
Random photo from Jake leading music time on this past Sunday. He led for both junior and senior. I think the primary kids enjoyed him being there and I enjoyed watching him.

Me and my boys
Each Sunday around Cinco de' Mayo, I wear my dress from Mexico. The boys and I snapped a few pictures after church and on the way home from church. I am blessed with four children to help me grow and improve.
25 years and counting
Here’s to 25 years of my home, safety place, and happiness. I’d choose Jake over and over again. I am a better person with him in my life. Excited for eternity with him.
We do not have many photos from our wedding day because the photographer got sick but I am thankful for the ones I do have. I was able to make these look a little better and snapped a picture of my bridal. Regardless, it was one of the best days of my life marrying the man that makes me better and is kind to all.

End of April recap (1/2 nurse, out of the house, & temple time)
Aubree has officially finished her first year of nursing school at UTHSC. Although I know she misses Utah, I think she is glad that she is here for school and it getting a good education. I know we are glad she is here. I always enjoy seeing her on campus and occasional lunches.
Ginny went to New York and ran a 1/2 marathon. Between she and Aubree running, Christopher has been trying to run more often and go to the gym with Aubree when he can.
Will has had a rough week or so and we are having him sleep in the shed (as of 4/23). It is kinda our version of kicked out but we are providing everything still except the comfort of his room. We ordered things to go around the door to prevent mosquitoes from coming in and on stormy days/nights, we are letting him in the room. On 5/1, he decided he was not staying at our house and had his friend pick him up....the while situation breaks my heart. I have shed many tears and cry almost daily thinking about it but we do not know what else to do to best help him. It makes me so sad the struggles he has because he really is a good kid. This past weekend we did two sessions on Saturday at the temple. Will was heavily on my mind throughout both. The first session, I was so sad but the second was joyous and I felt that God was telling me not to give up. During the session, the talk came to my mind multiple times that He is in relentless pursuit of his children always, so we must also be in relentless pursuit of our boy. I am hoping that he is soon able to begin his mission papers. Yes, he needs to work on honesty and I imagine it puts Jake in a hard spot because he has has first hand knowledge of things and for others, he just opens the portals. I hope he is able to go. I am trying very hard to trust God and to trust Jake. I struggle a lot with his medication and the role it may play in receiving a call.
Now for the second temple session- our Ginny went through for her endowment on 5/2. It was a beautiful afternoon. It was wonderful to be sitting in the session with my daughter's on each side of me. Both are beautiful in white. Happy heavenly birthday Papaw from below.
